How the “Dare to Dream” Bursary Shaped My Career Projects

innovation in action with the dare to dream bursaries from bet software

Being awarded BET Software’s “Dare To Dream” bursary has been a gift that has kept on giving. It came at the perfect time, allowing me to further my studies and paving the road for me to fully satisfy my passion. Now, I’m a Junior Software Development Engineer at BET Software and that alone has exposed me to different technologies which I currently use.

My journey with the “Dare To Dream” bursary – post my tertiary studies – began with the BET Software Graduate Programme which utilised most of the skills (C# and ASP.NET Core Model View Controller) I had acquired during my time at Durban University of Technology (DUT).

We had to create a ‘Registration Web Application’ which was my first ever professional project that introduced me to the use of Azure DevOps, and allowed me to properly work with Git functionalities. This project was a success and was a team effort with the All-Stars I had started the graduate programme with.

As I’ve grown in my career, I have had to work more with SQL (Structured Query Language) and Web APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), and I’ve gotten exposed to differentiating between backend and frontend development.

There is still more to learn and improve upon. And the more I improve my skill set, the more efficient I become in my work, that’s why I will always be thankful to the opportunity granted to me.

The “Dare to Dream” bursary isn’t just a financial lifeline, it’s a door to endless possibilities. If you’re a student wondering what comes next, or if you doubt whether your dreams are attainable, know that opportunities like this can be your stepping stone. So, dare to dream big, take that leap, and apply for the bursary.

Whether you’re just starting your journey or standing at a crossroads, the “Dare to Dream” bursary could be the key to unlocking a future you never thought possible. Trust in your potential because BET Software certainly will.
