Character is everything in an industry that moves at lightning speed! Tech moves fast, too fast sometimes. Between AI breakthroughs and new tools dropping daily, it’s easy to feel like you’re playing catch-up. But I’ve learned that in this space, it’s not about knowing everything. It’s about character. Titles don’t define us. With curiosity, humility, and passion, you can create real change for yourself and for others.
After finishing my studies, I spent a year at sea. Coming back, I felt out of my depth. Interviews were tough. The questions caught me off guard. But instead of pretending to know, I chose curiosity. I asked questions, took notes, and treated each experience as a chance to grow. Owning what you don’t know isn’t weakness, it’s self-awareness.
Joining BET Software, I was lucky to be surrounded by people across departments who took time to guide me. Their support gave me room to explore creative solutions and think bigger. One of my highlights was attending an AI conference not just to support others, but to absorb knowledge that’s now shaping my Honours thesis. I never imagined I’d pursue postgraduate studies, but mentors helped me see what was possible.
Ambition is powerful but without direction, it can burn you out. I’ve learned that good mentors turn ambition into impact. I’ve been fortunate to have more than one, and the value of their insight goes beyond the workspace. From casual weekend chats to big career milestones, they’ve helped shape the path I’m on.
The future of tech may be uncertain, but I believe in this: knowledge can be taught, tech can be automated, but character keeps you steady. Stay curious. Stay grounded. And know that when the sea gets rough, you can always bet on character.
